Boundary Review Spells Major Local Changes

The Boundary Commission has confirmed its recommendations for major changes to the boundaries of local parliamentary seats which will result in a total reduction of 50 Parliamentary seats nationwide.

Tunbridge Wells & Corwborough seat remains unchanged from the Commissions earlier proposals they published last year. These recommendations can be brought before Parliament for a vote at 24 hours' notice and there are no further opportunities for consultation.

As a result, the new 'Tonbridge' seat gains Capel, Pembury, Southborough & High Brooms, Southborough North and Speldhurst & Bidborough from the existing 'Tunbridge Wells' seat.

Paddock Wood East, paddock Wood West, Goudhurst & Lamberhurst, Hawkhurst & Sandhurst and Brenchley & Horsmonden would all move into the new 'Weald of Kent' Seat.

Councillor Julian Stanyer, ward member for Speldhurst & Bidborough, said:

"It will be strange to adopt a new member of Parliament for our part of the area - Tom Tugendhat instead of Greg Clark - but of course we have long supported surrounding constituencies and we shall continue to do so and I am sure we will continue to work with Tom and Greg very successfully."
