Jukes elected new Leader

Councillor David Jukes, veteran Councillor for Speldhurst & Bidborough, has been elected Leader of the Council. David, who is 70, expressed a mixture of sorrow at having to replace Bob Atwood (who lost his seat at Rusthall in the May 3rd elections) and elation at being the unopposed nomination of the Tunbridge Wells Conservative Group on Thursday 17th May. He was previously deputy leader to Bob Atwood. His Cabinet appointments will be:

Jane March - Tourism, Leisure and Economic Development Portfolio Holder

Paul Barrington-King - Sustainability Portfolio Holder

James Scholes - Finance and Governance Portfolio Holder

Bill Hills - Planning & Transportation Portfolio Holder

John Cunningham - Health, Wellbeing & Rural Communities Portfolio Holder.

Catherine Mayhew becomes Chairman of the Overview & Scrutiny Committee and Mike Rusbridge continues as Chairman of Western Area Planning Committee.

All of these posts will be confirmed at the Mayor Making ceremony at the Town Hall next Wednesday, May 23rd.
