Olympic Torch visits Langton Green

Tuesday will be a special day for residents of Tunbridge Wells and especially for people living on the route of the Olympic Torch in Langton Green. On Tuesday 17 July 2012, just ten days before the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games, Royal Tunbridge Wells will welcome the Olympic Flame as it begins its journey through the county of Kent. Tunbridge Wells Borough Council is proud to have been chosen to be the point of entry for the Olympic Torch into Kent as part of the 70-day- long tour of the UK. It is also the only place in the county the Torch will be visiting on 17 July.

Torch Relay Route

Having reached the town via the A264, the Torch will begin its journey at the Spa Hotel on Bishops Down at 11.20am. It will travel up and along Mount Ephriam to the roundabout where it will turn down Grosvenor Road. From there it will travel past the Royal Victoria Shopping Centre and past the Town Hall on Mount Pleasant Road at 11.40am continuing past Tunbridge Wells railway station down through the High Street and onto the Pantiles for 11.45am. The Torch will carry on to Eridge Road finishing its journey at 11.55am.

Advice for watching the Torch Relay

The Council are encouraging travel on public transport, due to anticipating large crowds for this event. Please expect delays and note that some car parks on the route will be affected for a period of time on the day.

Tunbridge Wells Council, Kent County Council, Kent Police, Kent Fire and Rescue are working together to co-ordinate crowd and public safety. Security staff and volunteer event stewards will be place at key points along the route to help people safely enjoy the event.

High Street, Tunbridge Wells will be closed for its entire length from 8.00 am until 12.30pm.

Civic Way will be closed to vehicles but is open to the public.
