At last night's packed meeting at Speldhurst Village Hall, an overwhelming vote passed a resolution in favour of the motion "This Parish is in favour of the preservation of all areas of Green Belt within the parish". The resolution will now be the basis of a parish poll to be undertaken either the 19th or 26th April which will involve all residents in the Parish but be carried out by Tunbridge Wells Borough Council. The meeting followed considerable anxiety at the Parish Council's stance in respect of the Local Needs Housing site, fronting Langton Road to the rear of Ferbies, Speldhurst. Whilst the Parish Council has previously stonewalled on the subject of whether it would allow a referendum, they conceded under pressure of an almost unanimous show of hands that the issue should go to the vote. This marked a major victory for opponents who wanted a clear indication as to whether the proposal is supported by the local community.
