As Julian Stanyer's year as Mayor of Tunbridge Wells drew to a close, he issued a 'thank you' message to a packed Council Chamber. In his speech he thanked all of the 'unsung heroes' who together underpin the great social fabric of this town, all of the volunteers who keep this a vibrant and caring centre for its residents, who raise many thousands of pounds for charity, who keep the cultural and sporting links alive, and the economic wellbeing of this Borough. He made a personal thanks to Giles Walter, Vicar of St John's, who has been his Chaplain during the year, and to Burrswood his chosen charity. He presented a cheque for £14,000 to Helen Winning the Head of Fundraising for the charity.

Afterwards, new mayor David Elliott was sworn in with his chosen Mayoress being Mrs June Crowhurst, a former Councillor of the Borough and current Chairman of Pembury Parish Council. David is a retired environmental officer with an interest in steam trains and classic cars, who has travelled throughout the world. He has also served as both Borough and Southborough Town Councillor since 2007.
